Gardner was five when her first experiments in abstraction were begun and her life was devoted to abstract art. Painter in abstract styles, colour and the theme of ribbons being important. Three teachers were key influences: Frances Richardson, Rudolph Pen and Kwok Wai Lau.

Gardner exhibited fine art constantly from 1966, travelling to Cornwall from Chicago, USA in 1984. Gardner was based at The Gallery, Portscatho, Cornwall, living in Flushing and commanded considerable respect in the art community both as an artist and fine art collector.

Gardner had a series of solo exhibitions at Drian Galleries from 1972 and Falmouth Art Gallery in 1985, to which she offered to bequeath her extensive collection of contemporary Cornish artists’ works of art.

In 2004 Gardner donated an important fine art collection to Falmouth Art Gallery, Cornwall, United Kingdom.
